Despite popular claims that print is dead, print advertising continues to be a strong market. Not only are companies spending their ad dollars on print advertisement, but also some of the best innovation and design is happening in the print medium. In 2011, there were so many outstanding ads that appeared in magazines, newspapers and on designs for posters and postcard printing, proving that print media is far from dead.
Print offers a unique canvas that online advertisement can’t match. The full-page ad used for catalog printing will look the same to every person that views it, as opposed to the huge variety of viewing conditions that electronic ads experience. That stability gives designers a freedom to express and show things in powerful ways. A single, frozen image can tell a compelling story that inspires, titillates, motivates and amuses.
