This minimal project featuring wooden bird sculptures titled ‘Immersed Birds’ is by Moisés Hernández, he is a designer based in Mexico City. CNC technology was used to create the soft edges on each bird sculpture before being immersed in colored water.
The immersion in colored water was an experimental technique we developed for this project, which gives the birds a unique personality. This technique of painting creates an interesting texture of intersections and transparency made by layers of color that resemble the plumage of birds. The amount of color, hue and the way sections cross one another depends on the time and position the wood is plunged.
One of the main characteristics of birds are the incredibly saturated colors of their feathers. Toucan, hummingbird and Mexican quetzal were chosen because of their glowing chromatic range.
