Artist Carl Krull has created this collection of pencil line art, he is currently based in Copenhagen, Denmark. This series of pencil drawings on paper have been created whilst on a road trip across the United States. He has titled the project ‘Scroll Drawings’ and the biggest one measures at 152 x 338 cm and the six smaller 100 x 40 cm, all created from the car passenger seat.
The method used in creating the drawings derived from the need to create a system that could overcome the problem of doing large scale work without the flat surface which was actually needed. Therefore the particular procedure of drawing on a tube was invented. Scrolling and scanning the curved or partial surface working through the paper like a printer, one line at a time. Every line with it’s own characteristic, but still corresponding and relating to the previous line. Eventually every bump in the road and every tiny crack in the floor affects the drawing and it becomes a topographical map of the journey itself.
